Sometimes when I seem to have an unusually large supply of computer monitors, printers, vcr’s (high mortality rate there…), and cabinets from other burned-out or out-moded tech hardware, they begin their dialogue with me, rather than the other way around. Their complicated and varied forms ask for their moment in the sun, to not be extinguished simply because their first life has given way. Knowing my interests, they ask to play on a larger stage, to become things they never were in their first life. Like questionable vaudeville players, given the right medium, their talents are more remarkable than seem to have been known before. So, for these voices, I gave them the Alexander Hamilton, one of the finest Hudson River Day Line passenger steamers, carrying their small town hopes from Poughkeepsie and Bear Mountain to the Big City: New York.
